Union Minister for International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin received United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar Ms. Christine Schraner Burgener on 14 November 2019 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on addressing the challenges hindering the repatriation of displaced persons, the government’s efforts for creating conducive environment for the returnees in cooperation with the United Nations and ASEAN and speeding up the citizenship application process and continuation of dialogue with the displaced persons and resumption of the Joint Working Group meeting between Myanmar and Bangladesh to commence repatriation process.
The Union Minister stressed the importance of understanding the complexities of Rakhine issues and taking a practical and balanced approach which are key to the success of cooperation between Myanmar and the United Nations in addressing the challenges facing the country.
Also present at the meeting were U Chan Aye, Director General of the International Organizations and Economic Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. – MNA
