Lao People’s Democratic Republic (LPDR) Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, who is in the country at the invitation of Myanmar President U Htin Kyaw, was welcomed at a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Nay Pyi Taw, yesterday afternoon.

The Lao Prime Minister and his wife, Naly Sisoulith, arrived at the Presidential Palace at 3 p.m. and was cordially greeted by the President and First Lady Daw Su Su Lwin.

Next, President U Htin Kyaw and Lao PM Sisoulith received the salute from the Guard of Honour and introduced to each other the members of their respective delegations, who were present at the ceremony. After the welcome ceremony, the Lao Prime Minister signed the Presidential Palace guest book and took commemorative photographs with President U Htin Kyaw. Later, the Myanmar President and Lao Prime Minister held a discussion in the Hall for Envoys of the Presidential Palace.

During the meeting, they discussed matters related to enhancing the Myanmar-Lao bilateral friendship and cooperation, regional and international peace and security, bilateral cooperation in Asean, supporting and assisting one another in regional and international organizations, the status of the bilateral economic relations and developments in the social sector. Also present at the meeting were Union Ministers Lt-Gen Kyaw Swe, Lt-Gen Sein Win, U Win Khaing, Dr. Myo Thein Gyi, U Kyaw Win and U Kyaw Tin; Deputy Ministers U Min Thu and U Aung Htoo; Myanmar Ambassador to Laos U Ko Ko Naing; and other officials, while the delegation led by Lao PM Sisoulith was accompanied by Laotian Ambassador to Myanmar Lyying Sayasang. The visiting Prime Minister of Laos witnessed the signing of MoUs between Myanmar and Lao yesterday. Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith became Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in 2016.
