The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar recalls its press release dated 19 November 2021 that categorically rejected the adoption of the resolution entitled “Situation of Human Rights of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar” at the Third Committee of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Ministry reiterates its objection against the adoption of the said resolution at the Plenary Session of the 76th United Nations General Assembly on 16 December 2021.
In the past, Myanmar used to call for a vote. However, this year resolution was adopted without a vote due to the misrepresentation of an illegitimate representative, who was dismissed from civil service and has been facing the charge of high treason, at the United Nations. His treasonous act jeopardizes the national interest.
Myanmar always opposes the targeted country-specific resolutions which are adopted against the United Nations’ principles of universality, objectivity and non-selectivity in consideration of human rights issues. As the modalities of formulating the resolutions and organizing the dialogues are fundamentally flawed, it is unacceptable to see that the said resolution against Myanmar is full of distorted and erroneous elements including the term “Rohingya” which has never existed in any legal and historical context of Myanmar and has never been recognized by the people of Myanmar. In this connection, Myanmar strongly rejects and dissociates itself from the adoption of the resolution.
