Myanmar and Bangladesh sign for an agreement on the Terms of Reference of the Joint Working Group.

Myanmar and Bangladesh came to an agreement on terms of repatriation for those who fled Rakhine State four months ago and are currently in temporary Bangladeshi camps. A Myanmar delegation led by U Myint Thu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, travelled to Bangladesh on Monday and met with a Bangladesh delegation led by Mr. Md. Shahidul Haque, Foreign Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh in Dhaka yesterday. At the meeting, Myanmar and Bangladesh reached agreement on Terms of Reference of the Joint Working Group to oversee the repatriation process of displaced persons from Rakhine State. The agreement was signed by Permanent Secretary U Myint Thu and Bangladeshi Foreign Secretary Mr. Md. Shahidul Haque in the presence of Mr. Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh.

The Joint Working Group between Myanmar and Bangladesh will be formed to take the necessary decisions, through a consultative and consensus building process, and realise them based on the Arrangement on Return of Displaced Persons from Rakhine State signed in Nay Pyi Taw on 23 November 2017. The work of the Joint Working Group will adhere to the general principles, policy aspects Myanmar, Bangladesh agree on terms of repatriation the operation of the centre. Afterwards, the State Counsellor went to the playground of the day care center and observed the children playing happily in the playground. The child day care centre is caring for the children of public service personnel who are serving in the ministries and union level organizations in Nay Pyi Taw while they perform their duties during the day time. – Myanmar News Agency and modalities as stated in the Arrangement. Myanmar Delegation comprises officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Office of the State Counsellor, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population and the Union Attorney General’s Office.
