New Year Day 1382 ME
17 April, 2020

I wish to extend my good wishes for good health and peace of mind on the occasion of the New Year to all esteemed citizens of Myanmar.

I am deeply saddened by the fact that because of COVID-19 global pandemic during this year’s Thingyan, all of you could not move freely and have fun. I wish to extend my deepest gratitude to the staff implementing protection, containment and treatment procedures concerning COVID-19, the donors and civil society organizations helping out, the professionals, experts and members of the media for their assistance, and to all the citizens for closely following the directives and regulations issued during this period. I urge all of you cooperate and participate to solve this problem by combatwting this global pandemic in unity as a national duty as everyone has a responsibility.

My fellow citizens,
The Union Government is working hard to address the global pandemic, COVID-19, through systematic preparations and processes. At the same time, we are implementing with unflagging zeal, the aspirations and hopes of the people, concerning rule of law, socioeconomic development, national reconciliation, internal peace and establishing a democratic federal republic, which reflects the goals and hopes of the Union Government.

The Union Government understands that now is the time for reforms to implement national peace and that is why we are speeding up reforms for sectors such as the political, economic, education and health sectors. There are visible and intangible accomplishments in this regard.

My fellow citizens,
In this new age of globalization, our Union Government believes reforms are opportunities to build peace and prosperity and implement development across the nation. Change is not something to worry about in the 21st Century for the socio-economic development of the people. We understand that change is not a danger but is in the interests of all our citizens. That is why it is important to have genuine feelings for reform in establishing a democratic federal republic.

My fellow citizens,
Today is the auspicious day of transitioning to the New Year. We shall continue on our journey with renewed spirits and strength. In the same way, we need to step into the New Year with new thoughts and new visions for the national interest of our State.

We are working with strong will, strong determination and strengthened resolve for the success of the people’s hopes and goals of the Union Government, and will continue to do so on this journey. We will take the experiences of the previous year as lessons learnt to strive for better results in the New Year.
The nation and its citizens have the power to implement their own destinies and the people are solemnly urged to continue cooperation with the government while the opportunity still presents itself.

” May all citizens have good health and peace of mind,

” May you all be free from the danger of COVID-19

” May the Union progress and develop in peace and prosperity.
