ASEM Senior Official’s Meeting and related meetings were held at MICC-1 in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning. The Preparatory Sub-group Meetings of the ASEM Senior Officials’ Meeting of the ASEM Senior Officials’ Meeting were held in the morning and the 3rd Meeting of ASEM Pathfinder Group on Connectivity was held in the afternoon. Myanmar ASEM SOM Leader, H.E U Kyaw Zeya, Ambassador delivered welcome remarks at the Opening Ceremony of ASEM SOM. In the evening, Myanmar ASEM SOM Leader hosted a welcome reception for the ASEM Senior Officials and delegation at MICC-1. Delegations from the ASEM Member States comprising 51 Asian and European countries, ASEAN Secretariat, European Union and Asia-Europe Foundations are attending the ASEM SOM meetings and related Meetings held in Nay Pyi Taw.
The ASEM foreign ministers meeting will take place in Na Pyi Taw, Myanmar, on 20-21 November. It will bring together foreign affairs ministers from Europe and Asia as part of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). Foreign ministers will discuss how to address key challenges affecting both continents, such as security, trade, climate change, sustainable development goals and connectivity .This meeting will kick-start the preparations for the 12th ASEM summit which will be hosted by the EU in Brussels in October 2018.The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) was established in 1996 as a forum for dialogue and cooperation between Europe and Asia. It aims to strengthen the relationship between the two continents.
ASEM brings together 53 partners, including the EU, 30 European countries (28 EU member states, Norway, Switzerland), 21 Asian countries, and the ASEAN Secretariat. The ASEM summit is organised every two years, in Asia and in Europe alternately, to set out the priorities of the partnership. Ministerial meetings are organised in between the
ASEM summits, including one meeting of Foreign Affairs ministers.
